A Brooklyn Cookie Swap

February 23, 2009

J and I went to a Cookie Swap in Williamsburg on Saturday night. I really didn’t do much work. J bought the ingredients, made the dough, and then rolled all but 6 (that’s where I pitched in!) cookies onto a cookie sheet and into the oven. He was determined to make his favorite cookie, the Chocolate Crinkle. They were delicious. “Like a brownie with sugar on top,” J said. We ate an insane amount of cookies and I was so impressed by everyone’s creativity. Someone made those girl scout cookies that used to be called Samoas, but now they’re called something else b/c that’s not PC. Very impressive.

The party-hosters even made a chocolate “earth.” (see below)

Grown Up Ramen Noodles

February 20, 2009

I went to Ippudo last night for the second time — it’s definitely my pick for best ramen restaurant in the city (and there are a lot to choose from). I wore my napkin as a bib this time around (no shame), since I learned my lesson that slurping up soup can get messy and stain your clothes. But, seriously, this place is just so gosh darn good. It’s amazing that something as simple as ramen noodles, something many of us lived on via Cup of Noodles for years, can be elevated to something so tasty. J also really loves this rule at the restaurant that if you don’t eat much of your broth, you can ask for a refill on your noodles. I couldn’t even finish my single order and he whipped through a double. Typical.

Paladar Prix Fixe

February 18, 2009

I went out to dinner with Anthony on Sunday night, and we decided to go to Paladar on Ludlow Street. In the 3 and half years that I’ve lived in the LES, I can’t believe I haven’t tried this restaurant yet. Especially considering I’m pretty sure the chef lives in my building. But here’s the best part: They have a prix fixe on Sunday through Thursday (it might be through Wednesday, call to double check). I got an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $19.87. (Also, I love when prix fixes are odd numbers. I’m more likely to go for them.) I had some fabulous empanadas, mahi mahi, and tres leches for dessert… with a margarita on the side. It was delicious and cheap!

Superbowl Stomach Ache

Mmm…. too much beer and cheese-filled foods and dips. What a fun game though, right?!
