Sorry for the lack of posts this week—I’ve been very busy eating, sitting on my bum, and watching movies. Thus, no time for blogging. But I’ll be back in ‘08 with lots of fun firsts—my first meal at Momofuku, my first time at the James Beard House, and my first adventure in cooking a rack of lamb (with mustard sauce, yums!). Get ready. And HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I desperately wanted to make these cookies for my bosses—and I was going to personalize them and write things like, “Don’t let Molly lick me” (Molly’s a dog, who I love). But I couldn’t find a Gingerbread Man cookie cutter ANYWHERE in NYC. I tried all the regular venues: supermarket, Duane Reade, Whole Foods. And then I even tried Sur La Table. But nothing! This entire city is sold-out of gingerbread men AND red sprinkles. Why?!?! I will get you next year, Gingerbread Man!
I ended up making simple, circle gingerbread and sugar cookies, and then I just used a bottle of Wilton icing (in what looks like a glue bottle) to write their names and make cute designs. They still tasted good, at least.

So, I have the best bosses in the world. No, really. I do. I’m not just sucking up because one of them reads this blog. But they are nice, and funny, and actually care about my career and well-being… what more can you ask for? Well.. AMAZING CHRISTMAS GIFTS! They just gave me mine, and it’s these beautiful Boho dessert plates from Rosanna that I blogged about a while ago. They’re so lovely—and perfect for serving all of Jo the MasterBaker’s creations (and occasionally a cookie or two of my own). Thank you!!!

The New York Times just did an article with a round-up of restaurants on Avenue B, titled East Village Eden. They claim that “Avenue B in the East Village has developed a thriving restaurant scene…” Well, duh! The best part—all the restaurants have only one or two $ signs. Gotta love good, cheap food!

As I’ve mentioned before, I work in the foodie-wasteland of Midtown East. Therefore, I frequent Chipotle… frequently. And today I learned that they love me back. When I ordered my lunch online (if you haven’t done this, you must! It totally avoids the ridiculously long line), my confirmation email said:
Hello,
Thank you for placing an order with Chipotle!… blah blah blah
Love,
Joe
Umm… who is Joe? And why does he love me?

This tea cup is super fun—even though I realize it’d be annoying/impossible to keep putting the cup down at the exact right spot to match the date. (via SwissMiss) Still, I like the idea. Click here to check out a few more cool tea cups that were designed for the The Creation Gallery in Ginza. I like this “T” cup too, below. Go ahead J… name all the fonts!

Here’s what I did all morning at work. (Via ohdeedoh) It’s surprisingly fun and cathartic, as I imagine making a real gingerbread house would be if I had those skills. Go make one!

Eater confirmed this week that Wild Salmon, the Jefferey Chodorow restaurant featuring all Pacific Northwest cuisine and ingredients, is closing. I must say, I’m not surprised. J and I ate there during Restaurant Week this summer, and we couldn’t have been less impressed—by the food, by the design, and by the staff. Now, I’ll admit—we’re not exactly used to the posh Midtown restaurant scene surrounded by businessmen eating dinner, but we at least expected an impeccable meal. I even ordered the salmon to make sure my dinner was good. But, I can honestly cook salmon better than I received. I know a lot of restaurants don’t serve their A-game when it’s Restaurant Week, but we were so disappointed. You hear that Chodorow? You disappointed me! Still… for every Chodorow restaurant that fails, another 5 spring up successfully to take it’s place. So, let’s wait and see what he does next.
